Scott Mehus from the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, and Mark Martell from the Raptor Center released a Golden Eagle today about 4 miles from the farm, in Buffalo County. The eagle had been caught in a coyote trap, and brought to the raptor center to be rehabilitated. Scott and Mark took advantage of it's being available, and fitted it with a radio transmitter so they can keep track of it after it's released. (more...)
This has been a big week for owls in St. Anthony Park - our neighborhood in St. Paul. Today I saw two more.
We had a Long-eared Owl sitting on one of the balconies of our building a few days ago.
We’ve heard Saw-whet Owls here several times, but seen one only once. A few years ago one spent a few weeks in our screech owl house. (more...)
Today I found a Great Horned Owl - the subspecies "subarcticus" which is paler than the normal ones we see. (more...)

The owl is still around - it flew into our yard this morning for a brief visit. I never expected to have a Great Grey Owl on my "yard list"! Then it moved on to the wooded area between the houses just to the south of our house. (more...)
