Lithacodes fasciola – Yellow-shouldered Slug Moth

Hodges # 4665

Caterpillar foods: apple, beech, birch, elm, hickory, linden, oak, willow and other trees and shrubs  (Covell)

8/31/2008  These caterpillars are amazing to look at.  They’re like jewels – tiny (1/2 inch long), translucent, and bright colored.  I found this one on top of a leaf at night – while searching leaves with a flashlight.  Unfortunately I didn’t record what kind of leaf it was eating.
